Vireya - The Tropical Rhododendron

Vireya are an epiphite and in their natural setting, they would grow up in the trees.
Vireya initially grow very fine hair-like roots.  Plant the cutting into a pot with well draining soil.  Do not touch or disturb the cutting for several months.  It you do, the cutting will usually die, because any disturbing of the plant will break the very fine hair like roots before they have had a chance become numerous enough to withstand any movement.

O, here comes the sun.  Time to spread my joy.

The frequent rains here in the Puna District of east Hawai'i Island, give one the opportunity spot water drops on the flowers after the rains stop.  How do you enhance a flower?  Nature certainly finds this delightful  way.

I did not notice the Ninole Lizard until after I took this photo.  Pretty cool, eh?
